A WELCOME FROM THE FAMILY OF ST MARY'S BECONTREE! - 'MAKING JESUS KNOWN'

    Out of the Darkness

The nights are drawing in and we are slowly moving from autumn towards winter.  With the end of British Summer Time, the mornings may be initially lighter but the evenings come earlier.  It won’t be long before many of us will go to work or school in the dark, and then go home in the dark.  If like me, you work in an environment where there are no windows then you could go all day without seeing the sun at all.  Time and time again, people will have the conversation about whether or not the clocks should change, many citing the safety of our children coming home from school in the dark, as a reason to leave things be.

Our world is a dark place where there is evil, and violence and war.  All of us are exposed to something unpleasant or disturbing on a daily basis, be it on the television, in our newspapers or on social media.  People are bullied, harassed, intimidated, hurt, tortured or killed.  Even when we think of ourselves as being a normal, peaceful person, we do things wrong, we hurt people and we hurt God.

John 8:12 – I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Jesus is the light of the world.  He died upon the cross so that we can be forgiven for our sins and be saved.  As we follow Christ, and follow his teachings, we too become lights in the world, showing God’s love to those we meet.

Are you walking in darkness?  Are you looking for some light in your life?  Do you have questions about Jesus Christ that need to be answered?  Visit us at St Mary’s at one of our Sunday services; come and see what it is like to be a people of God, living in the light.  Come and explore with us because that same light is shining for you.
